Ecological Management of Your Land AND The Loggerhead Sea Turtle Migration in Florida

This is a first time on our show for Tim Andrews of Tim Andrews Horticulturist.   Tim is the newest sponsor of Ultimate Outdoors Radio and we are so excited to learn all about horticulture from him – Caring For The Natural World.  He has worked continuously in every aspect of the field of Horticulture. From ’78 until 1997 Tim owned and operated a sizable design/build landscape company. Neighborhoods like High Point, Cherokee, and Maple Grove sprang forth in the fertile farmland of Dane County during these decades. Circumstances lead him to a position he held as the Landscape and Grounds Coordinator of a local, private College for 13 years. During this time he earned his Masters’ Degree in Environmental Education and continues to teach courses in Environmental Studies and Spirituality.

Our next guest is Cindy Johnson with Turtle Time Inc in Florida.  We will be talking with Cindy about this amazing creature and how we can all help protect these endangered and threatened Sea Turtles.  These Sea Turtles may travel thousands of mile from feeding grounds to their natal nesting beaches using the earth’s magnetic field to find their way!  Amazing!

Turtle Time, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the recovery and conservation of marine turtles.   Established in 1989, the group is the Florida state-permitted monitoring organization for sea turtle activity from Fort Myers Beach to the Lee-Collier County line. Daily patrols during the nesting season are conducted to gather important scientific data about population estimates, distribution of nests, nesting patterns and hatching success rates. Sick and injured sea turtles are transported to special rehabilitation facilities and information on deceased sea turtles is submitted to the national Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network.
