Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt AND The Value of Deer Tracking Dogs

It has been a while since Ashlee Lundvall has been on our show.  We are so glad she is joining us again.  Ashlee is an avid hunter out west and is active in getting other women passionate about the outdoors and hunting.  She recently participated in the 7th Annual Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt.  What an amazing way for women to hunt, mentor and learn about the outdoors.   We are going to talk with Ashlee about their experiences on the hunt.

Sean Timmens                            The famous Kieler

And we welcome back Sean Timmens from Spring Valley Kennel in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin.  Sean is  a professional dog trainer and has trained dogs to help hunters track a deer that has been shot but has been lost.  We know a true sportsman will do his/her best to track a wounded animal and these dogs are amazing!

“We offer tracking for wounded deer with our Bavarian Mountain Hounds on an as-available basis. Linda and I are both very active with The United Blood Trackers Organization. We spend a considerable amount of time training and laying tracks in the summer months. Our dogs were imported from Poland and Slovakia with special attention to making sure they came from working lines. Our Polish hound Kieler, was named 2016 Tracking Dog of the Year for the U.S. and Canada by the Bavarian Mountain Hound Club of America in recognition of his recoveries.”

Spring Valley Kennel is also a boarding kennel and they will help you train your dog to be a better buddy for you.

Sean’s Tips if you shot a deer that wandered:
1.  If you think for ANY reason the hit is questionable, do not attempt to recover the deer. Simply walk out quietly and call us.

2.  If you start tracking and lose blood, do NOT start walking around trying to locate it. You are carrying micro specks of blood to other areas, thus making it much tougher for the dog. Back out and call us.

3.  Get permission from neighbors to track on their property, just in case.
