Mercury National Walleye Tourney, Walleye Weekend, and Casting for Kids

Our first guest this week is Brian Posick.  Brian loves to fish and catch & release big bass.  Besides fishing, Brian is a “live play-by-play” broadcaster on ‘Learfield’.  He is the voice of Badgers Men’s Hockey.  And his daughter Maddie plays pro hockey in Sweden!   Brian is a key player in the huge success of  Mark Osiecki’s Casting for Kids Fishing Tournament, which has raised over $450,000.00 for children with cancer and their families.  Brian will discuss ways to get involved with this important cause.  There are still angler openings available in the boats.   There are 70 boats already set for fishing on Saturday May 20, 2023.  After the tournament there is a $50.00 banquet, auctions, and many former Badger and NFL hockey players attending.  Check the website…you can bid for some of the items online now:  casting4kids.org

And next is….

Our second guest is Ken Krueger.  One of his jobs is Tournament Director for the Mercury National Walleye Tournament.  The Mercury National Tournament is  part of  Walleye Weekend – Fond du Lac’s Largest Free Family Festival!   This year the tournament is June 10-11, 2023, on Lake Winnebago, at Oven Island in Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park during the Walleye Weekend 2023!
(The Festival runs from June 9-11).

The tournament began 45 years ago and the tournament is what then spawned the Walleye Weekend Festival.   “A tradition that families of all types can enjoy, thanks to some fishermen more than four decades ago.  Each entry fee in the tournament is donated to help preserve the walleye population.  Thousands of dollars have been raised over the years.”
