Hockey, Bass Fishing, Casting 4 Kids, and The Mercury National Walleye Tournament

Our first guest is Tony Granato.  Tony has quite a background. He was an incredibly gifted hocky player.  Tony  skated for the University of Wisconsin where he was two-time All American.  He then turned pro and played for The New York Rangers, The Los Angeles Kings with Wayne Gretzky, and the San Jose Sharks.  Tony also had a successful coaching career including Team USA in the Olympics.   So…we are going to talk with Tony a little bit about hockey,  and then a little about Bass fishing.  Yep, he does that too.

Tony is also involved with the Mark Osiecki Casting for Kids Fishing Tournament.  Tony will tell us about his role in this amazing benefit for the American Family Children’s Hospital and UW Carbone Cancer Center.

Next up is Ken Krueger.  Ken is the Director of the Mercury National Walleye Tournament in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.   It is that time of year again – for the Merc National!  This is the 46th annual tournament and it is a hugs success.    Before he became director, Ken competed in the “Walleye Weekend” event as an angler for 10 years.

  Per Ken Krueger:
“The Mercury National is like the Daytona 500 of walleye fishing tournaments: this one really isn’t about the prize you get at the end.   Lake Winnebago is such a difficult lake to put together a solid bite two days in a row and come up with the winning basket, you’re really held to a higher standard when you win this event. It’s a very, very difficult feat to accomplish.”

Along with the tournament is the Walleye Weekend festival in Fond du Lac:  Activities & shows for all ages, live music in a variety of genres, fishing events,  a variety of other sporting events, shows and performances, and food galore!
