Restoring Wetlands w/ Ducks Unlimited / Stories from Ed the Diver

This Saturday, Brian Glenzinski is joining us.  Brian is Regional Biologist for Wisconsin Ducks Unlimited.  Brian is responsible for all conservation programs in Wisconsin, including wetland restoration and associated upland habitat delivery, land and easement acquisition, and technical assistance as well as work on public policy as it relates to wetland protection in Wisconsin and the region.  Brian focuses on the Great Lakes and Big Rivers Initiative areas of Wisconsin delivering wetland design, construction management, native prairie establishment, and statewide conservation planning for wetlands and waterfowl.

We are going to discuss a major project under construction in Dane County, Wisconsin near Mazomanie.  Over 100 acres of the Mazomanie Bottoms will be improved and will be available for all to enjoy, especially the wildlife.  It is a million dollar project and a great example of what Ducks Unlimited and their partners can achieve.

Our second guest this week is Ed the Diver.  I bet some of you even follow him on Facebook, I know we do.  His business is Bieber’s Underwater Recovery.  He dives in area waters looking for the goodies and the garbage humans leave behind or lost.  He is having fun, helping wildlife and the waters, and helps people find lost items.   And,  very importantly, he is able to make some money selling some of his interesting finds.

Ed describes what he does in these basic steps:
1.  Remove trash, fishing line, hooks, and snags.
2.  Untangle water life from fishing line and hooks
3.   Return lost property and sell fishing lures
4.  Educate people through my videos and public speaking

His bio in brief:  “I began my diving recovery business around 2017, with just a cheap diving mask, swim trunks, a boogie board and some old gym shoes. Most of my dives were near Stephenson Island in Marinette and it just progressed from there.”
