Controlling Coyote Population AND Are Whitefish Limits on Green Bay Necessary or Harmful?

Carson Mack is joining us again to talk about controlling the coyote population in Wisconsin.  Why people hunt coyotes and the best way to do it.  Carson is with Premier Pest Elimination.  He is an avid predator hunter and he chases coyotes.  He will share his knowledge of firearms, scopes, and game-calls.

Why do people hunt coyotes?   The most common reason for killing coyotes is to reduce predation of livestock, such as sheep and calves. … Of those animals, ranchers stated that 33,510 adult sheep (more than half of total predation losses) and 84,519 lambs (nearly two-thirds of all predation losses) were killed by coyotes.             In Wisconsin, there are very few regulations in place to hunt coyotes. According to the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR), a small game license is required. You can hunt coyotes year-round, day or night. There is also no limit on how many you can kill.

Mike Arrowood is joining us again, too!  (We must be doing something right, eh?)    Mike is with Walleyes for Tomorrow (WFT).  WFT is a project oriented organization with the goal of increasing the population of walleye in waters where habitat projects are undertaken.  We will be talking about the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources proposed rule change that would allow increased commercial harvest of lake whitefish in southern Green Bay.  The modification has been years in the making and is a response to a good news, bad news situation.  Mike is has some thoughts on how this would affect the walleye population and what can be done.
