Tarpon Lodge
The Tarpon Lodge – Pine Island, Florida
My wife and I spent several days at the Tarpon Lodge in January 2013 and this is what my wife has to say about it: ~ The Captain
In January of 2013 my husband I were lucky enough to spend two day and nights at the Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island, Florida. The historic buildings and spacious grounds took my breath away, I felt like I was in heaven and the feeling lasted during our entire stay. I still remember that feeling when I look at my photos of our stay there.
Our room was authentic and charming without being overdone – which means my husband liked it, too. I hope we get the same room when we go there this year…and next year, too! We had a small balcony overlooking the water, the piers, the boats and kayakers, the grounds and the gorgeous sunsets.
Rob Wells, the owner, graciously gave us a brief tour and explained the history of the lodge which was build in 1926 as a private residence. The bar and the four star restaurant have retained the original coastal lodge feel. The food was excellent; the grouper was so good, I had it two nights in a row.

After our visit at the Tarpon Lodge, we spread the word. My sister, her husband and several friends went there for dinner about a month later. Here is what my sister Jeanne had to say on Trip Advisor. ~ The Captain:
If you are anywhere on the gulf side of Florida, dinner at the Tarpon Lodge is worth the trip to Pine Island. Our group of five was welcomed and seated promptly on the lovely covered dining area, which faces west to catch the gorgeous sunsets. Everything we had was delicious. Our waitstaff was very helpful and attentive. You must try the blue crab chowder! But have a cup rather than a bowl if you are also having an entree. It is very rich – but oh….so very good. Some of us had the grouper special and declared it a winner. Three of us had a pasta dish. Oh my word, some of the tastiest I’ve ever had. A great dinner in a beautiful setting!
